Chief Executive – Holiday Parks New Zealand

A once in a generation opportunity! Tourism Talent is seeking a new Chief Executive of Holiday Parks New Zealand (HPNZ) for the first time in 21 years.  

HPNZ is a member-based organisation representing a family of around 260 holiday parks across Aotearoa New Zealand that generate over $1 billion in visitor spend annually from 9.4 million guest nights. 

The Chief Executive leads the growth and development of HPNZ and key components of the role are: 

•          to ensure the association provides the leadership, guidance and appropriate services for, and most valued by, the members

•          to increase HPNZ’s influence with Government, the accommodation sector and the wider tourism industry

•          to be the primary spokesperson for the holiday accommodation parks sector, and promote the sector through any means that increases public awareness of the facilities member parks have to offer. 

The Chief Executive will uphold the utmost integrity and have a strong sense of ethics whilst being responsible for strategy development, planning and reporting, along with relationship management, operational management, and staff and contractor management. 

Key competencies include an enthusiastic leadership style that demonstrates the organisation’s vision and values, exceptional relationship building and management skills, the ability to influence and persuade others, and the ability to formulate strategy and then operationalise it. 

As a senior leader and spokesperson in the New Zealand tourism industry, the successful candidate needs to have clear and effective communication and the ability and experience to work with media, other industry leaders, government officials, ministers, holiday park owners and the wider HPNZ membership.

A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of business, government and industry process is required and experience working with, and reporting to a board would be valuable. The HPNZ office is located in Waikanae but the board are open to the successful candidate working remotely and the role requires regular domestic travel.
