Govt releases lockdown guidance for operators

26th March 2020 By Staff Reporter | news@tourismticker.com | @tourismticker

Maintain physical distance, collect potential trace information, limit housekeeping, and close all restaurants, are among the guidelines for operators open during the lockdown.

New Zealand entered Covid-19 alert level 4 at one minute to midnight last night allowing only essential services to operate for the next month.

Accommodation services are allowed to stay open for essential workers, isolation or quarantine, or emergency housing.

The list of the type of accommodation providers considered essential are:

  • Hotels
  • Motels
  • Backpackers
  • Lodges
  • Bed and Breakfast
  • Short-term Serviced Apartments
  • Hostels
  • Hall of Residence
  • Holiday Parks and Campgrounds
  • AirBnBs – whole house only, no shared rooms
  • Self-contained vehicles, such as motorhomes or campervans

The guidance notes that operators should not try to enforce the lockdown if guests ignore the restrictions. Instead, they should email NHCCselfisolation@health.govt.nz to report.

“Not following the restrictions may include things like changing accommodation frequently or congregating in large groups,” aid the guidelines.

The full guidelines can be downloaded here.
